A worker inside Chrysler Transmission Plant, 2401 S. Reed Road, was injured Friday morning after falling into a 15-foot deep pit inside the factory.
The Kokomo Fire Department responded with medics and rescue personnel at about 10:20 a.m. and extricated the man from the pit.
An on-duty rescue team entered the pit and rescued the worker, who was then transported to Community Howard Regional Health for treatment, Chief Pat O’Neill said.
“We train at most industries in Kokomo and we have knowledge of their systems and policies. It was a textbook extrication. It worked out real well,” he said.
The name of the worker, who was a contractor with Caravan Facilities Management and not a Chrysler employee, has not yet been released.
