What: Rib-eye sandwich from the 4-H Junior Leaders booth.
Why: It’s hard to resist the smell of simmering steak on a warm summer afternoon. So I didn’t resist.
The smell was rolling off the grill from the Junior Leaders booth, where young volunteers were cooking rib-eye steak for sandwiches.
They fold it all together and pile it on a hamburger bun. Nothing fancy, but it sounded good, so I ordered one.
It’s a simple sandwich, no doubt. But, man, it’s good. Those kids know how to grill.
I did mine up with a little bit of pepper and BBQ sauce, and washed it down with a Coke.
I’m sure it was all in my head, but I thought it tasted just a little bit better knowing the $6 I paid for the sandwich was going toward a good cause like the Junior Leaders.
There are bigger, weirder and fancier things you could order at the fair, but it’s tough to beat a piece of steak.
