PERU – A Peru man was arrested Tuesday on a charge of attempted murder after deputies say he plotted to shoot his ex-wife with a handgun.
Gregory Konrath had begun to execute his plan to murder his ex-wife when his live-in girlfriend called police and alerted them to his plot, deputies said.
The girlfriend told deputies Konrath was planning to shoot his ex-wife, who lives in Lafayette, with a handgun and try to make it look like a suicide.
According to deputies, the girlfriend also said Konrath was also trying to get her to be his alibi after the murder, and tell police, if questioned, he had been at home with her during the time of the murder.
Deputies said Konrath indicated his motive for the attempted murder was “justice.”
Konrath was arrested and incarcerated at the Miami County jail on a $250,000 bond.
Miami County Sheriff Tim Miller said the investigation is ongoing with the help of Indiana State Police, the Lafayette Police Department and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office.
