Fire crews from several volunteer fire departments battled a house and barn fire early Friday at Kokomo Paint & Body near 500 North and 250 West.
Galveston Volunteer Fire Department was called out at shortly after midnight to a barn engulfed in flames spreading quickly to a house at 4847 N. 250 West, a Howard County Sheriff Department report stated.
When firefighters arrived, they forced entry into the house after discovering no one was home.
The owner, Troy Black, arrived on the scene about 15 minutes later. Black said he didn’t know how it started but told firefighters he just replaced a switch on an air compressor in the barn.
Calls made to the Galveston Fire Department were not immediately returned. Young America and the Howard County Emergency Management fire crews assisted Galveston in extinguishing the fire.
