Kokomo police arrested a Kokomo doctor Thursday on drug charges after he was found with a blank prescription pad and an unspecified prescription drug.
Police began investigating Dr. Matthew R. Steiner, 47, 2619 Brookside Drive, June 26 at a south-side hotel.
From that initial investigation, the Kokomo Police Department Drug Task Force obtained a search warrant for the hotel room and a vehicle.
During the execution of the search warrant, investigators located a blank prescription pad and a Schedule IV controlled substance, according to a press release. Schedule IV controlled substances include a variety of prescription drugs including pain relievers, tranquilizers and anti-anxiety medication, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration’s website. A warrant for Steiner’s arrest was issued by the Howard Circuit Court.
KPD’s Drug Task Force, along with DEA officers, arrested Steiner at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. At the time of his arrest, police said Steiner was cooperative and surrendered his DEA registration at the scene.
Steiner has been charged with felony counts of attempted dealing in a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, and two misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor.
Steiner was released from jail after posting 10 percent of the $15,000 bail.
