— The Kokomo Common Council is expected to take a moment Monday to acknowledge the sacrifice of the late Marine Corps Sgt. Bradley Atwell at its Monday meeting.

State representatives Mike Karickhoff and Heath VanNatter will be presenting the family of Sgt. Atwell with a copy of Senate Concurrent Resolution 0003, passed during last year’s Organization Day in Indianapolis.

Sgt. Atwell was part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and a member of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13 based in Yuma, Ariz. He was killed in the line of duty Sept. 14, 2012 in Afghanistan. Sgt. Atwell was posthumously awarded with a Purple Heart, an honor given to military service men and women who are wounded or killed in action.

The resolution to honor Sgt. Atwell and his family, passed in a concurrent vote of the House and Senate, was authored by State Sen. Jim Buck (R-Kokomo) and co-sponsored by Karickhoff and VanNatter.

The council meeting will be 7 p.m. in council chambers, City Hall, 100 S. Union St.
