---- — SHARPSVILLE — Sharon Fields knows she has “big shoes to fill” as the new assistant principal of Tri-Central middle and high schools, and she’s excited about the opportunity.
At a regular board meeting Monday, the Tri-Central Community School Corp. board of education voted 6-0 to hire Fields as the new assistant principal, effective July 1. Fields has been acting as the interim assistant principal since the death of Anne-Marie Bailey on March 12.
“Anne-Marie was a great mentor, and I just want to carry on the tradition she had with the kids,” said Fields, who has been the middle/high school guidance counselor at Tri-Central for two-and-a-half years.
Superintendent Tim Garland was confident in his recommendation that the board approve hiring Fields for the position.
“Mrs. Fields has done an excellent job bouncing back and forth between counseling and filling the big shoes of Mrs. Bailey,” he said.
Also at the meeting, the board approved modifications to the cheerleading handbook and supported the hire of teachers for summer school. Whether all of the positions will be needed depends on the number of students who require summer school, Garland said.
The next regular board meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. May 12 in the Administration Office board room.
