One of the two teens injured in Thursday’s evenings hit-and-run accident died from his injuries late Friday, Kokomo police reported.
Christian Reede, 13, was operating a mo-ped east on Center Road when a white Ford SUV-type truck hit him head-on.
The truck, described as possibly a Ford Escape or Mercury Mariner, was traveling west on Center Road and was turning south onto Highland Springs Drive when he hit the moped.
The truck continued south on Highland Springs Drive and fled the scene.
Reede died from his injuries sometime Friday evening at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, Maj. Brian Seldon said Saturday morning.
A passenger on the mo-ped, Donte Brown, remains hospitalized and was in good condition, Seldon said.
Both victims were transported from the scene to Community Howard Regional Health and later air lifted to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.
It was initially reported that the Kokomo Police were looking for a possible late model white Ford truck. Police determined from evidence found at the scene that vehicle was possibly a white 2005 to 2007 Ford Escape or Mercury Mariner, possibly missing a right front fog lamp and missing a right front inner fender well, Seldon said. The suspect vehicle should also have front-end damage.
