---- — A woman charged with stabbing her father in the chest last week pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Howard Circuit Court.
Meranda White, who remains jailed on $50,000 bail, faces a Class B felony charge of aggravated battery in the Aug. 28 stabbing of her father, Steven White.
According to police, Steven White, 60, was stabbed once in the chest following an argument with his daughter at his home in the 2100 block of East Vaile Avenue. When police arrived, Meranda was sitting on the front porch with a knife in her hand and her father was lying in the front yard with a stab wound to his chest, police reported.
White initially was taken to Community Howard Regional Hospital for treatment, then transferred to an Indianapolis hospital. His injury is not believed to be life threatening.
Steven White told police his daughter was suffering from mental issues, according to court records.
Meranda White appeared in court via video teleconferencing at the Howard County jail’s courtroom and was appointed a public defender to represent her in the case.
She is set to reappear in court Nov. 13 for a pretrial hearing and Dec. 3 for her trial.
If convicted, she could face up to 20 years in prison.
