U.S. 31 ramp on Kokomo's north side opens Saturday
From staff reports
The flyover ramp at the north junction of the newly constructed U.S. 31 bypass and the "old" 31 — now called Ind. 931 — is due to open Saturday for northbound traffic, Indiana Department of Transportation officials announced.
The ramp connects Ind. 931 to the new bypass on the north side of Kokomo. When the ramp opens, southbound traffic will stay in place — separated from the northbound lane.
Motorists traveling on the new ramp will be restricted to a single lane while construction workers remove the temporary crossover pavement in the center median, along with concrete barrier wall sections. Crews also will install an overhead truss for signage.
The ramp opening is one of the last steps in the ongoing bypass project, which is scheduled to open sometime before Thanksgiving. State officials haven't given a specific opening date.
