More winter weather on the way

Another storm system is heading into the region, with the National Weather Service predicting snow will arrive tonight. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Howard and Tipton counties from 7 p.m. tonight to 7 a.m. Saturday. Winds will continue to gust and, coupled with likely snow, will make travel dangerous.

Accumulations of 2 to 3 inches are expected overnight with some areas getting as much as 4 inches. The NWS predicts the snow will end Saturday morning, but another system could bring more snow Sunday.

A wind chill advisory is in effect until noon today, and extremely cold temperatures are expected to return next week.

Tipton County Communications 911 urges residents to prepare for the worst from the storms, stating the weather systems have the potential to dump as much as 6 to 10 inches of snow through the weekend.

“Driving conditions could be at times white out conditions and very dangerous,” the statement said. “Power outages could occur … Start to prepare now and let’s hope this one passes us by.”
