Peru — Police say a former employee of a Miami County concrete company stole more than $70,000 from the business after she made 55 unauthorized purchases with company money.

State police say Deborah O’Connor, 50, Paulding, Ohio, formerly of Rochester, stole the money from R&W Concrete near Macy, where she worked as a office manager from 2004 to 2011.

Police began an investigation into the incident after federal and internal audits of the company revealed numerous instances of business checks being written for personal expenditures.

Police said O’Connor falsely documented the expenses as business related.

When the owner of the company asked O’Connor why she stole the money during a conversation recorded by police, she said she didn’t have any excuses and she screwed up, according to court documents.

O’Connor faces 10 Class D felony charges of theft.
