Two 13-year-old boys were airlifted to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis Thursday evening after being injured in a hit-and-run accident on Center Road.
A Kokomo Police Department accident report said Christian Reede was operating a 2013 black Tao Tao mo-ped, east on Center Road at 8:45 p.m. with Donte Brown as a passenger, when they were hit by a Ford Escape that fled the scene.
The truck, described only as a Ford Escape, was traveling west on Center Road and was turning south onto Highland Springs Drive when it hit the mo-ped head-on, the accident report stated. Both Reede and Brown were not wearing helmets and were ejected from the mo-ped.
Reede suffered head and internal injuries, and Brown suffered a fracture to his upper leg, the report stated.
After the crash, the Ford Escape continued on Highland Springs and has not been located, Police Maj. Brian Seldon reported Friday.
Witnesses described the vehicle as a possible late-model Ford Escape. Police searched the subdivision but did not locate the Ford Escape, Seldon said.
Both juveniles were first transported from the scene to Community Howard Regional Health and later flown to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. As of 8:30 p.m. Friday, hospital officials reported Brown had been upgraded to good condition, while Reede was still critical.
