Kokomo police arrested a 23-year-old man who tried unsuccessfully to rob a Swifty Gas Station on U.S. 31 North Thursday morning.
Detective Doug Stout said Zachariah A. Morgan, 23, went to the station demanding money from the clerk.
No weapon was displayed.
The clerk refused and fought off Morgan, who fled without getting any money.
Officers quickly responded and canvassed the area.
A short time later, police located a man matching the description given to police by the clerk at his home in the 1400 block of East Gano Street, near the gas station.
The man was later identified as Morgan.
Police interviewed Morgan and arrested him on a Class C felony attempted robbery charge and a warrant for failure to appear for an unrelated battery case.
No injuries were reported in the physical altercation, Stout said.
Morgan is being held in the Howard County jail with no bond. If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison on the attempted robbery charge.
