— An autopsy conducted on the 21-year-old woman found dead Thursday in a home on James Drive revealed she died of a single gunshot wound to her torso.

Investigators with the Kokomo Police Department said they were told there is a possibility that two intruders forced their way inside the home at 815 James Drive at around 9:30 p.m. and killed Destiny Pittman.

Once inside the residence, the intruders were confronted by Pittman and fired a single gunshot striking her in the upper torso, a KPD press release stated.

Pittman was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made in the case and the investigation continues.

Police did not give any more details about the shooting or who else was in the home at the time of the crime.

Pittman’s death marks the first homicide in 2013. Last year five homicides were reporting in Howard County including two that remain unsolved.
