Peru's wrestling team posted a perfect 5-0 in an eight-team meet it hosted Saturday, which marked the first day of action following a week of snowstorm-related postponements and cancellations.
The Bengal Tigers edged Cass in the opening round, 41-36, before collecting convincing wins over Eastern (57-19), Angola (51-15), Taylor (71-7) and Kokomo (52-25).
Shane Garrettson (106-pound weight class), Carter Kintner (113), Kegan Kern (132), Peyton Sturgill (138), Evan Loe (145), and Danny Fisher (170) all went 5-0 on the day for Peru. Nick Cress (195) and Conner Quin (120) both went 4-1.
“I thought we wrestled well considering all the snow, but we’re in the same boat as everyone else with not practicing much,” Peru coach Andy Hobbs said. “The kids put in a good, hard day of wrestling, and it felt good to get back on the mat and get some matches in.”
Oak Hill also went 5-0 in the meet.
Oak Hill swept Peru in a girls-boys doubleheader Saturday night. In the girls game, Oak Hill rolled to a 66-37 win. In the boys game, the Golden Eagles topped the Bengal Tigers 63-57. Austin Finicle and Seth Adelsperger scored 15 points apiece to lead Peru in the boys game.
This week, Peru visits Maconaquah on Friday night. The teams met last month in Miami County Holiday Tournament's title game, which Peru won 58-56.
