Walton earns medal at boys state meet
BLOOMINGTON — Maconaquah senior K.J. Walton finished ninth in the 200-meter dash at the IHSAA Boys Track and Field State Finals on Saturday at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University.
Walton posted a time of :22.55. He earned a spot on the podium by finishing in the top nine.
“I’m disappointed I wasn’t able to break the school record, but I’m really proud of what I was able to do this season because I never really ran the 200 before the [Mid-Indiana] conference meet,” Walton said. “I won the MIC and the sectional, and was second in the regional. This is a great feeling. There’s nothing like it. I always wanted to be on the podium for state, and I made it happen this year, so I’m proud of myself for that.”
• In the girls state meet on Friday, Maconaquah sophomore Maysie Hewitt tied for 19th in the pole vault competition after clearing 10-3.
