BUNKER HILL — Miami Correctional Facility is still taking registrations for its fourth annual MCF Prison 5K Fun Run/Walk scheduled for Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. at the Pipe Creek Fire Station.
The 5K run/walk will utilize about a mile of the scenic Nickel Plate Trail through Bunker Hill. Miami Correctional Facility has been instrumental in the completion of the trail by providing offender labor for trail construction and maintenance. The facility has donated more than 30,000 hours of labor on the trail throughout Miami County since 2006. The trail runs north to the Fulton County line and south to the Howard County line.
The run/walk route will begin at the Bunker Hill Fire Station, 339 W. Pearl St., and run north through the streets of Bunker Hill to the trail and then south on the trail to County Road 800 South where it will turn north again onto South Clinton Street and return back to the fire station on Pearl Street.
The 5K run/walk is open to the public, and all proceeds will go toward the Correctional Employee Appreciation Fund to help offset the cost of activities associated with the facility’s Employee Appreciation Days. Cost of the run is $18.
The facility has also scheduled a run run for kids, which will start at 7:45 a.m. prior to the 5K run/walk, which begins at 8 a.m. An award will be given to the winner of the fun run. T-shirts will be given to all pre-registered runners/walkers. A limited supply of T-shirts will be available on the day of the race.
