PERU — A 54-year-old Peru man was arrested early Monday morning after deputies say he attempted to strangle his 14-year-old stepson who has asthma and kicked his 12-year-old stepdaughter.
Deputies said they received a 911 call late Saturday night from the daughter, who said, “Daddy is beating up mommy.”
When deputies arrived at the residence in the 1500 block of Forbes Avenue near Grissom Air Reserve Base, the mother said she and her husband, Jeffrey L. Wilson, had been engaged in a domestic dispute.
Wilson’s wife said Wilson struck her. Deputies said she had red marks on both sides of her face.
The woman said her 14-year-old son tried to stop Wilson from hitting her. She said Wilson responded by slamming his stepson against the wall and placed his hands around the boy’s neck. The wife indicated her son has asthma, deputies said.
Deputies said Wilson also kicked the 12-year-old girl during the incident.
Two other young children were also in the house during the incident, deputies said.
Wilson faces felony charges of strangulation, domestic battery in the presence of a minor, and neglect of a dependent, and a misdemeanor charge of battery. He is being held at the Miami County Jail on a $21,000 bond.
