Jennie Rhees and the ladies of Mommy Makeover have been pumped up about their fitness transformations so far. But for Rhees, the makeover went from physical to mental when she had to experience a little bit of “the real world.”
“Nutrition has been a little bit of a challenge for me because I went to a wedding this weekend,” she said with a laugh. “So that was a test that I didn’t pass.”
A little chocolate cake and a little wine was enough to have her feeling a little guilty and a little off her game during her session with trainer Rob Land.
“I felt like crap,” she said. “I did not feel good between the drinks and the chocolate cake, my body didn’t feel good. My workout wasn’t as strong. I notice so much more strength when I am living the right way, so that was a good life lesson.”
Rhees said she ’fessed up to Land about the splurges — and about how guilty she felt.
“He said that means I want to be on the right track and I want to get my body in shape,” she said.
She said she was surprised when Land said it wasn’t a big deal and that little indulgences are fine, as long as she got right back on the wagon.
“That’s real life stuff that you run into when you’re working out,” she said. “You just have to figure out how to get back on track.”
So starting Monday, Rhees hit it hard.
This week, she’s started to incorporate Zumba into her cardio routine; the Latin-dance inspired cardio class she took with Rebecca Hampton at Crossroads Community Church was just what she needed to mix up her routine.
“That was a blast,” Rhees said. “I absolutely loved it. A little booty shaking there for ya. I loved it.”
