The Kokomo Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy is accepting applications for its upcoming class.
Members of the public interested in attending the eight-week session can get an application at the KPD front lobby display area, 100 S. Union St., or www.cityofkokomo.org, under the Latest News link. There is also a link on the KPD Facebook page.
All applications must be returned to the KPD by Feb. 24. Applicants who meet the requirements will receive an acceptance letter.
The purpose of the Citizens Police Academy is to increase the public’s understanding of law enforcement duties and responsibilities, according to a KPD media release.
There is no charge for the classes, which are designed to give citizens information about the training police officers are given. The eight sessions are held once per week on Wednesdays. The classes are from 6-9 p.m. in City Hall Council Chamber.
The first class will be on March 6. The classes will not meet March 27; graduation is scheduled for May 1.
The Citizens Police Academy will accept 25 applicants. Applicants must be a minimum of 18-years-old with no felony record or criminal arrests within a three-year period of the March 6 start date. Applicants are subject to a background check.
Applicants must attend seven out of eight sessions to graduate. Those who graduate will receive a certificate and become eligible to be a member of the KPD’s Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
