Kokomo will soon be getting a new doughnut shop.
Jack’s Donuts is set to open in mid-March beside Jimmy John’s at 3707 S. Reed Road, which most recently housed a yogurt shop but has been vacant for more than four years.
The doughnut company currently has more than 20 locations in Indiana and Utah after it began offering franchise deals in 2013, according to the company’s website.
Owner Eric Patton, who is opening the Kokomo store with his wife, Nickole, said they opened the company’s third franchised location in 2013 in Carmel. They also own a Jack’s Donuts in Westfield.
Now, Patton said, they’re excited to bring their signature and specialty donuts to Kokomo.
“We’re not here to take away business from any of the other donut shops, but it’s exciting to be creating a new store in Kokomo that provides more options to meet people’s different tastes and preferences,” he said.
Jack’s Donut was started by Jack and Ada Marcum in 1961 in New Castle. Patton said many people who work at the Kokomo factories are transplants from New Castle and grew up on Jack’s Donuts.
“So we’re excited to be bringing those donuts to the Kokomo area,” he said.
Patton said he and his wife live in Fishers and are both graduates of Ball State University. He said their other two franchise locations are heavily involved in the community, including serving as a major sponsor for the Donut 5K run in Carmel. Patton said they will bring that same community involvement to Kokomo.
The Kokomo shop is now hiring for all positions, including front-counter staff and bakers. Anyone interested in applying can email Kokomo@jacksdonuts.com.
