Edward A. Blackowiak

Oct. 18, 1937 - March 20, 2008

Edward A. Blackowiak, 70, Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 18, 1937, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Edward and Celia (Finney) Blackowiak. On June 24, 1967, in Kokomo, he married Donna Snow, who survives.

He was a 1955 graduate from Kokomo High School, and he served two years in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and he served as a Cub Master at Darrough Chapel. He enjoyed canoeing, camping, bird watching, gardening, traveling, history, dining out and collecting Indian history.

Surviving are his wife, Donna Blackowiak, Indianapolis; two sons, Donald and Alessandra Blackowiak, Sarasota, Fla., and Michael T. and Shawn Blackowiak, Kokomo; a daughter, Nancy Blackowiak, Alabama; grandson Joseph Blackowiak, Cicero; sister-in-law Patricia Bonds, Kokomo; mother-in-law, Edna Snow, Kokomo; and a brother-in-law, Bill and Cindy Snow, Kokomo. Also surviving are two aunts, Gene Blackowiak, Beaver, Wis., and Bernice Vanish, Crevitz, Wis.; cousins Lorraine Broski of Oregon, Wis., Joanne and Tom Creighton, Mount Hollyhoke, Mass., Judy May, Washington, D.C., Florian and Agitha Fendrick, Pound, Wis., and Jerry Mena, Los Angeles, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 320 W. Broadway, with Father Andrew Dudzinski officiating. Burial with military rites performed by the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team will follow at Albright Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., and also one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
