Gladys L. Stewart, 87, Kokomo, died at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Waterford Place. She was born Sept. 14, 1920, in Kokomo, the daughter of Glenn and Hazel (Hendee) Martin. She married Wayne L. “Stew” Stewart Aug. 20, 1942, in Kokomo, and he died April 1, 1996.
Gladys was a 1938 Kokomo High School graduate and attended Indiana Business College. She retired from Tenbrook Sales as the bookkeeper and was previously employed in the office at Maple Crest School.
She enjoyed traveling and was a collector of China bells, which she often found in her travels. Her husband had been an active member of the Masonic Order and she assisted him with his activities and endeavors in that area.
She is survived by one son, David Wayne Stewart and his wife Marsha, Fremont; seven grandchildren, Matthew Stewart and his wife Amy, Fort Wayne, Stephanie Kline and her husband Matthew, Cadillac, Mich., Stacie Lancaster and Shannon Lancaster, both of Fort Wayne, Shannel Nusbaum and her husband Scott, Garrett, Shawna Stewart and Seth Stewart, both of Fremont; six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd. with Rev. John McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
