John Henry Huber, 76, Kokomo, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, very suddenly at Clarian North Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born on Nov. 4, 1931, in New Palestine, to Henry G. and Lillian Huber. He married Geraldine M. (McKinney) on June 9, 1956, in Michigan City.
He was a graduate of New Palestine High School and held an accounting degree from the School of Business of Indiana University, Bloomington. Additionally, John and Geraldine held an Indiana Comprehensive Nursing Care Facility License.
He is a retired business executive and an entrepreneur. He and his wife owned and operated Sycamore Village Health Care Center, Kokomo, as well as several other nursing homes in other cities.
John can long be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a true Christian who dearly loved his Lord and Savior. He was very loving and kind to his family and to all those who were associated with him. He leaves behind a wonderful heritage and many happy and joyous memories. He and his wife were avid and frequent travelers.
John served in the U.S. Air Force. His memberships include the following: First Church of the Nazarene, following in his father’s footsteps by being a 50-year plus member of the New Palestine Masonic Lodge 144 and a dual member of the New London Masonic Lodge 283, Booster Club, Indianapolis and Kokomo Shrine, where he volunteered to drive sick children to the Shrine Hospital in Chicago, IBN Saud Grotto, where he enjoyed driving the small cars during club activities, Gideon International and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite. He was a past member of the Rotary Club, Kokomo Elks Lodge 190 and Christian Business Men Association.
Surviving along with his wife of 51 years is a daughter, Dr. Beth Ann Traylor and husband James, Carmel; son, Brent John Huber, Kokomo; grandchildren, Daniel James Traylor and Benjamin James Traylor, Carmel; and a sister, Marianna Harris and husband William, Yorktown, Va.
Services for John will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Church of the Nazarene, 2734 S. Washington St., Kokomo, with the Rev. David Leeder and the Rev. Stan Zurcher officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. by the New London Masonic Lodge 283, and from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be given to either First Church of the Nazarene building fund or the Gideon International, envelopes will be provided at the mortuary and at the church.
