Howard F. Thompson

June 5, 1930 - May 7, 2008

Howard F. Thompson, 77, Kokomo, following a brief illness, passed from this life to join his wife in Heaven at 11:18 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Howard Regional Health System. He was born June 5, 1930, in Kokomo, the son of Ellis Clayton and Beulah B. (Conner) Thompson. He married Marilyn M. Ross on June 6, 1948, at Union Street Friends Church, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 2005.

Howard was a 1948 graduate of Kokomo High School and upon graduation enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served honorably for two years. He was employed at Haynes Stellite from Sept. 1, 1950, until his retirement in 1983. After his retirement, he worked for Herbst Pharmacy as a driver.

He was a member of First General Baptist Church, The Quarter Century Club of Stellite, The Moose Lodge and was a life member of the Kokomo Elks Lodge.

He enjoyed woodworking and always took pride in his yard. He and his beloved wife were accomplished dancers who enjoyed the Delco Dance Club and their many evenings dancing with friends at the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda K. Brinson, Kokomo; three grandchildren, Ashleigh Talbot and her husband, SPC Jared Talbot, Indianapolis, Leah Brinson and Michael Thompson and his wife, Kim, all of Kokomo; two great-grandchildren, Rylee Thompson and the future Owen Keith Talbot expected in June; three brothers, Doyle E. Thompson and his wife, Billie, William Robert Thompson and his wife, Gloria, and Walter E. Thompson and his wife, Carolyn, all of Kokomo; one sister, Carolyn R. Kuhn and her husband, Robert, Kokomo; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Robert A. Thompson; one great-grandson, Paxton Thompson and one sister, Bonnie Thompson.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Pastor Brad Swain officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum with military honors provided by the VFW Military Rites Team and the U.S. Army. The family will receive friend from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of First General Baptist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
