Lenard M. Mooneyhan, 86, Converse, died 5:05 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at VA Northern Indiana Health Care, Marion. Lenard was born in Poinsett County, Ark., on Aug. 23, 1921, to the late George W. and Zanna (Smith) Mooneyhan. He married Irene Pope on Oct. 30, 1939, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 1991.
Lenard was an Army veteran, serving in World War II and in the Battle of the Bulge. He was an automobile service man and an avid pilot. He loved old cars including his Model T and motorcycle. He was a member of the Converse Aviation Board. He had been sexton of Converse Cemetery for many years and had attended Grace Community Church.
He is survived by a son, Marvin (Donna) Mooneyhan, Converse; daughter, Laura (Tom) Miller, Amboy; brother, Ernest Ray (Linda) Mooneyhan, Marion; sister, Maudine (Joe) Walker, Galveston; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, one foster grandchild; and one foster great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Floyd and Bill; and sisters, Della Mae and Pauline.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Larrison-Martin Chapel, 308 E. Marion St., Converse, with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in Converse Cemetery with military honors. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
