Carroll Ray Morrow, 77, Cicero, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at his home with his family at his side. He was born Aug. 19, 1931, near Lapel, to John Calvin and Irna Grace (McClintock) Morrow.
He was a graduate of Walnut Grove High School class of 1949. After graduation, he worked with his father and brother in the carpentry business, remodeling and building homes in the Hamilton County area. He then became a co-owner of ABC Grain Corporation in the towns of Cicero, Arcadia and Atlanta. After their closing, he became owner of Vermont Feed and Grain Corporation near Kokomo, where he worked for 35 years. He also was a co-owner of EME Egg Farm near Arcadia. After retirement, he assisted at Hartley Funeral Homes at Cicero and Arcadia.
He was a member and past president of the Indiana Grain Dealers Association. He was invited to represent Indiana agriculture on a goodwill ambassador trip to Russia and the European countries, and upon returning, shared the findings of the trip with other agriculture entities. He was a member of Omega Christian Church, where he was currently serving as a trustee. He also was a member of Tipton Masonic Lodge, Tipton Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, Noblesville Elks Club and the Historic Landmarks Foundation in Indianapolis.
He played percussion instruments in high school and later in a dance band that played big band music in central Indiana. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and taught dancing classes. Other favorites were playing euchre with friends, watching Western movies and reading Western books, and IU basketball.
He married Bonnie Lou (Eller) Morrow in 1952. She preceded him in death in 1996. In 1999, he married Sylvia Kay (Ehman) Hartley Morrow, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Brett C. Morrow, Cicero, and Ken R. Morrow, Indianapolis; stepsons, Michael J. (Robin) Hartley and Steven J. (Dena) Hartley, all of Arcadia; brothers-in-law, Lee (Eleanor) Eller, Arcadia, and Dr. Dewayne L. Ehman and friend, DeAnne Cook, Yuma, Ariz.; stepgrandchildren, Christopher, Ryan and Adam Knapp, Douglas, Nicholas, Tanner, Taylor and Payton Hartley; and stepgreat-grandson, Rees Knapp.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin E. Morrow; and stepdaughter, Michelle E. Knapp.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Omega Christian Church, with the Rev. Neal Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hartley Funeral Homes, Cicero Chapel.
