Betty Jo Lee

May 9, 1930 - July 2, 2009

Betty Jo Lee, 79, Galveston, died at 3:40 a.m. (central time), Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, S.D. She was born May 9, 1930, in Kokomo, the daughter of Joseph E. and Mabel (Thatcher) Hodson. On July 24, 1948, in Indianapolis, she married Robert O. Lee, who preceded in death March 17, 2006.

She retired from Bell Telephone Co. in Kokomo with 34 years of service as a secretarial engineer in 1986. She was an avid bicyclist with her husband and a member of Wheel People Bicyclist Association, the Kokomo Art Association, ABWA (American Business Women’s Association). She also was a member of the Pioneer’s (Bell Telephone) and served as district coordinator for the AARP with tax preparation.

Surviving are two daughters, Barb and Dave Horoho, Galveston, and Jane and Mark Einstein, Lafayette; son, Bobby Lee and Anita Reynolds, Galveston; grandchildren, Betty Jane Hatton, Galveston, Susan and Bryan Collins, Kokomo, Kathyrn Einstein, Paxton, Ill., Jake and Megan Sanders, Sara and Samar Upadhyay, and Josh and Melanie Sanders, all of Minnesota, Robert E. Lee Jr., Kokomo, Kelly Horoho, Galveston, Matt Reynolds, Galveston; great-grandchildren, Jessalyn, Maddelyn and Colin, Hatton, Galveston, Jordan Nijim, Paxton, Ill., Devyn Johnson, Kokomo, Amber, Sydney, and Chelsey Collins, Kokomo, Erynne Lee, Markle, Ind., Sander Lee Upadhyay, Minnesota; a brother, George Richard Swing, Galesburg, Ill.; a stepsister, Sue Hendrix, Kokomo; a sister, Mary Jo Hodson, Galveston; and several nieces and nephews.

She was precede in death by her parents; husband, Robert; six brothers and four sisters.

Services are 5 p.m. Tuesday at Murray Weaver Funeral Home, 401 S. California St., Galveston. Pastor Greg Reed will officiate. Burial is at Galveston Cemetery, Galveston. Friends may call 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kokomo Art Association.
