William H. Greathouse

June 20, 1933 - July 5, 2008

William Harrison Greathouse, 75, Kokomo, died at 1:50 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, at his residence. He was born June 20, 1933, in Warren Co., Ky., the son of Fred and Mattie (Sowders) Greathouse. On Aug. 8, 1959, in Kokomo, he married Deloris Y. Azbell, who survives.

He was a 1951 graduate of Tipton High School. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and had the privilege of serving as an honor guard for President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He had been employed at Stellite-Cabot Corp. in supervision, retiring in 1985 after 30 years of service. He was a licensed Realtor and had worked for several Kokomo real estate agencies.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Stellite Quarter Century Club, a lifetime member of VFW Post 1152, American Legion Post 6, Moose Lodge of Tipton, and Eagles Lodge and Amvets, both of Leesburg, Fla. His hobbies included boating, golfing and playing cards with friends and family, especially “gin.”

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Michael Ray Greathouse and wife Susi, Kokomo, and W. Heath Greathouse, Bunker Hill; two daughters, Linda Stonoff and husband Brad, Middletown, and Brenda M. Granson and husband Will Tu, Novi, Mich.; grandchildren, Ryan Stonoff, Leslie Stonoff, Eric Greathouse, Amy Greathouse, T.J. Granson, Blake Granson and Shane Houston; one sister, Sue Book, Tipton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Fred Greathouse Jr.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Homes, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Andrew Dudzinski officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army, and the VFW Military Rites Team. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
