Harry E. “Gene” England

Harry E. “Gene” England, 81, Kokomo, died 6:59 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born June 25, 1927, in Kokomo, the son of William P. and Vivian (Lessig) England. On June 21, 1947, in Kokomo. he married Virginia Winslow, who survives.
Gene was employed at Chrysler Corp., serving as a supervisor from 1956 to 1978 and retiring in 1978 after 32 years of service. He also worked with Russ Ragland Stained Glass as a glass beveller. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Galveston. He was a former member of Bible Baptist Church, Kokomo, where he held several offices.
Gene belonged to the Historical Society of Kokomo. He was a member of the Rhinestone Rustlers and Swinging Squares, Square and Round Dance Clubs of Kokomo. He was also a member of the Spring-A-Rounds, Round Dance Club. He loved watching NASCAR racing. He enjoyed historical buildings and he loved playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia; a daughter, Luwanna England, Los Angeles; and a brother, Omar England, Kokomo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shannon (England) Johnson; brother, Rue England; and sister, Margaret England.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Galveston, 207 S. Sycamore, Galveston, with Pastors Aaron Webb and Warren Purcell officiating. Burial will follow in Galveston Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
