Mary Estella Mast
July 29, 1919 - July 15, 2008
Mary Estella Mast, 88, New Buffalo, Mich., died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte. She was born July 29, 1919, in Kokomo, to Fred and Adah (DeWitt) Armstrong. On Oct. 1, 1937, in South Whitley, she married Robert Elijah Mast.
She was a graduate of Greentown High School in 1937. Mary moved to the New Buffalo area in 1958. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of New Buffalo. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her family meant everything to her.
Mary is survived by her children, Emma Lou (Paul Sr.) Givens, Orr, Minn., Fred (Kate) Mast, LaPorte, Jean (Raymond Sr.) James, New Buffalo, Mich., and Randy (Nancy) Mast, New Buffalo, Mich.; brothers, James Armstrong, Kokomo, and Clarence Armstrong, Greentown; sister, Edna Kidwell, Kokomo; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Adah; her husband, Robert, in 1997; a daughter, Roberta Freeling; three brothers, Earl, Dallas and Jack Armstrong; a grandson and a great-grandson.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Brad Bartelmay officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Sommerfeld-Smith Family Funeral Home, New Buffalo. Mary’s final resting place will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.
