James ‘Jim’ W. Lawson
July 28, 1930 - July 16, 2008
James “Jim” W. Lawson, 77, Kokomo, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Howard Regional Health System. He was born July 28, 1930, in Duffield, Va.
He was a furnace worker at Continental Steel for more than 33 years before retiring. He also worked for Jeff Neuman for 12 years, laying and installing cable.
He was a member of the Eagles 255, a former member of the Moose Lodge, and attended the VFW 1152. He loved dancing and was known for making his famous pineapple upside down cake. He took pleasure in raising a very large garden every year, and canning green tomatoes, pickles, and hot peppers, which he enjoyed giving away.
He is survived by one half-sister, Peggy Baker and her husband, Carter, Duffield, Va.; one half-brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Linda Rogers, Fallbranch, Tenn.; one aunt, Clarsie DeZarn, Kingsport, Tenn.; his caretaker for 21 years, Claris Wilkison; his lifelong friends, Kenny and Jean Fannon, Duffield Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather Willie (DeZarn) and Roy Rogers; one brother, Gerrold Lawson; one half-brother, Glenn Rogers; and one sister, Faye Lawson.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
