Jerry L. Freeman
July 10, 1950 - July 18, 2008
Jerry L. Freeman, 58, Kokomo, lost his battle against lung cancer at 10 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2008, at home with his family by his side. He was born July 10, 1950, in Elwood, the son of John S. and Mary L. (Orr) Freeman. On Aug. 29, 1970, in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, he married Charleen (Lawhead) Freeman and she survives.
He was a 1968 graduate of Tipton High School. He retired from Delco Electronics in October 1999, after 31 years of service. He was employed at Ultratech in field service. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling with family and friends, grilling and entertaining around the pool, and an occasional golf game. Jerry was a Boy Scout troop leader for several years with Troop 508. He especially enjoyed his grandkids. He was “neat, keen and fun to be with.”
Jerry is survived by his wife, Charleen Freeman, Kokomo; his mother, Mary L. Freeman, Tipton; three children, Mark J. Freeman and wife Kim, Conifer, Colo., Theresa M. Dart and husband Jeff, Milwaukee, Wis., and Steve A. Freeman and wife Andrea, Kokomo; seven grandchildren, Nate Freeman and Anna Freeman, Conifer, Colo., Will Dart, Drew Dart and Lily Dart, Milwaukee, Wis., Lexi Freeman and Kruz Freeman, Kokomo; three brothers, Jan M. Freeman and wife Trish, Overland Park, Kan., Jay Freeman, San Diego, and John E. Freeman and wife Heidi, Tipton; one sister, Joan O’Malley and husband Dave, Tipton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John S. Freeman, who died in February, 2000.
Funeral services are 11 am Tuesday at Crossroads Community Church, U.S. 31 and Ind. 26, Kokomo, with Pastor Ron De Graaff officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Homes, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, where a scripture service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. led by Jon Kitchel. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life Team 100.
