David Earl Harrell
Nov. 9, 1926 - July 20, 2008
David Earl Harrell, 81, Kokomo, died 6:08 a.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. He was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Muncie, to Cecil and Dorothy Harrell. On Feb. 14, 1987, he married Iris W. Taylor.
He worked at Delco, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a member of the United States Army serving from 1945 through 1951.
David attended Cornerstone Church. He was vice president of the Howard County Labor Council. He was a lifetime member of the Kokomo VFW, where he served as an officer and member of the military rites team. He was the union president for AFLCIO.
Along with his wife, David is survived by a son, Ronnie Harrell and wife Karen, Bunker Hill; two stepsons, John Taylor and wife Dorena, Kokomo, Greg Taylor and wife Frieda, Kokomo; two stepdaughters, Sue Williams and husband Chuck, Kokomo, and Diane Morgan and husband Bill, Kokomo; 10 grandchildren, David Harrell and wife Tina, Kokomo, Denise McQuiston, Max Bowley, Christy Lawson, Fred Taylor, Greg Taylor, Matt Morgan, Theresa Taylor, Gary Taylor and Shannon Taylor; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Calvin Harrell and wife Jenny, Tennessee; and an aunt and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Harrell, and a sister, Cecilia Harrell.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Paul Enochs officiating. Burial with military honors will be performed by the Kokomo VFW military rites team at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, Kokomo. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
