Frances Beyer Moon

May 1, 1911 - Nov. 2, 2009

Frances Beyer Moon, 98, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Kokomo. She was born May 1, 1911, in Peoria, Ill., and she lived there until her marriage.

As a child, she wintered in California with her parents. This gave her a life-long love of traveling.

Frances received her bachelor’s degree in English from Bradley University in Peoria and her master’s degree in speech from the University of Iowa. She studied for several sessions at the University of Hawaii. She was active in Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Frances was a substitute teacher for Kokomo-Center School Corp.

She married Richard D. Moon, who was founder and president of Moon Welding and Tanks in Kokomo. Frances was very active in the National Federation of Music Clubs and civic organizations, such as Greek Club, Symposium, Morning Musicale, Delphian Reading Club, and she held offices in many of them. Frances was also active in Kokomo Community Concerts for which she was responsible for securing the highest ticket sales.

Frances was an over 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church in Kokomo and was active there for many years.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Janinne “Jane” Moon Floutz, Trenton, Mich., and her step-grandsons, Brian Floutz, Michigan, Thom Floutz, California, and David Lee Moon, Kokomo. She is also survived by her nieces, Jeanne Brackins, Tipton, Sally Morphew, Glendale Heights, Ill., Patty Farley, Tampa, Fla., Ellen Teal, Florida, Dorothy Fender, Las Vegas, and Ruth and Tom Wood, Charleston, S.C.; and her great-nephews, Bob and Paul Donahue, Kokomo.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two step-sons, Asher Lynn Moon and Gilbert Moon.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Jerry Van Auken officiating. There will be a time of visiting in the church parlor following the service. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery. Kokomo. Ellers Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
