Elizabeth A. Baker-Waits
Nov. 19, 1914 – Nov. 7, 2005
DENVER — Elizabeth A. Baker-Waits, 90, Peru, formerly of Howard County, died 7:50 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Peru. Born Nov. 19, 1914, in Howard County, she was a daughter of John William and Blanche Opal (Gay) Pachmayr. In 1931, in Kokomo, she was married to Jesse F. Baker and he preceded her in death in 1978. After the death of Jesse, she was married to Harry Waits, who also preceded her in death.
She operated a beauty shop in Kokomo for several years before moving from the area.
She was a member of Skinner Worship Chapel. She enjoyed fishing, water skiing, gardening and working on the family farm.
Survivors include two sons, George and wife Nancy Baker, Middleburg, Fla., and Mike and wife Janis Baker, Mt. Dora, Fla.; a son-in-law, Paul Troyer, Peru; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Baker, Kokomo; grandchildren, Elizabeth Dixon, Linda Moore, Gregory Baker, Larry, Dave, Gary, Randy and John Troyer, Lisa Schnitz, Steve and Tim Baker, Debbie Crooks and Kim Sturgeon; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Troyer; a son, William Baker; two grandsons, John F. Baker and Jeffery R. Baker; and a great-grandson, Trevon Patrick Browning.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Skinner Worship Chapel of Cass County, with Pastor Tom Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in the Skinner Cemetery next to the church. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McClain Funeral Home, 3500 W. Ind. 16, Denver. Memorials may be made to Skinner Worship Chapel. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Nora David
June 28, 1933 – Nov. 6, 2005
Longtime Kokomo resident Nora David, 72, died in Indiana Heart Hospital late Sunday night, Nov. 6, 2005. She was born on June 28, 1933, in the Philippines, the daughter of Leon and Luisa (Balais) Veloso. She married her husband Delfin P. David in the Philippines and he preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1991.
Nora received her RN license from the Republic of Philippines in 1966. She worked with her husband Dr. Delfin P. David for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church for 35 years. She served as a eucharist minister at St. Joan and she loved to volunteer her time to the church.
Nora is survived by her children, Fred David of Fishers, Arthur and wife Sandie David of Noblesville, and J.R. and wife Jennifer David, Avon; her grandchildren, Kaylee David, Camden David and Caden David, all of Noblesville, and Jillian and Delaney David of Avon. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery and Mausoleum. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Milton Setzer Hongen
June 25, 1916 – Nov. 2, 2005
LAKELAND, Fla. — Milton Setzer Hongen, formerly of Kokomo, and recently a resident of Longboat Key and Lakeland, Fla., died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, in Lakeland, Fla. He was born June 25, 1916, in Weissport, Pa., a son of Webster Josiah and Sarah Alice Hongen.
He was a graduate of Atlantic High School and went on to graduate from Rider University, Lawrenceville, N.J., in 1935. He was employed in 1938 by Ternstedt Division of General Motors Corporation in Trenton, N.J. During his career with General Motors he was assistant comptroller of Frigidaire Division in Dayton, Ohio, and comptroller of Delco Radio Division in Kokomo. He retired in 1974 as comptroller of Detroit-Diesel-Allison, Indianapolis.
He married Mary Petruccione, a classmate at Rider, in 1937 and they celebrated their 68th anniversary on Aug. 14.
He was an avid bridge player and in 1982 invented a game called “Bridge for Six.”
He is survived by his wife; a son, Robert W. Hongen; two daughters, Mary Alice Hoepfinger, Cookeville, Tenn., and Karen H. Cardman, Lakeland, Fla.; six grandchildren, John Goodnight, Mark Goodnight, Laurie Hoepfinger, Will Hongen, David Cardman and Kristin Allred; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathryn Hauck.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Longboat Island Chapel in Longboat Key, Fla. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, 9365 U.S. 19 North, Suite B, Pinellas Park, FL 33782; or to Operation Smile, 6435 Tidewater Dr., Norfolk, VA 23509.
Milos E. ‘Mike’ Graves
April 15, 1919 – Nov. 6, 2005
Milos E. “Mike” Graves, 86, Kokomo, went home to be with his most precious Lord on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, from St. Joseph Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was a man of great integrity and loved his Lord Jesus Christ, expressing it in the love he showed his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 58 years and his family until the time all will meet again for a great reunion in Heaven.
He was born April 15, 1919, in Union County, Tenn., a son of James Alford “Mannie” and Melinda Catherine (Lindie) Graves. He married Jean (Thieke) Graves on Sept. 4, 1947, and she survives.
He attended school at Forest and Russiaville and was a World War II Army veteran, serving from January 1942 to October 1945. He retired from Haynes Stellite in 1983.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 6, and a member of First Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed passing out candy at church and being with his family and friends. He was always known for being the sweetest man anyone could ever meet.
Survivors include three sons, Gary and wife Bonnie Graves, Kokomo, Dick and wife Sandy Graves, Aliquippa, Pa., Jeff and wife Mary Graves, Kokomo; grandchildren, Jonathan and wife Monica Graves, Jenny Graves, Mykelle Thompson-Graves and her husband Scott, Becky and husband Jeremy Pentland, Kimberly and husband Dustin McLochlin; great grandchildren, Sam and Jack Thompson-Graves, and Joshua Pentland; two brothers, Tom Graves, Russiaville, and Lawrence Graves, Kokomo; one sister Mary Jane Smelser, Galveston; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and husband Carson Hughes, Betty and husband Donald Duncan, and Mary and husband Wayne Linville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, one sister, five sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church, 1520 N. Apperson Way, with Pastor Chuck Griffith officiating and the Rev. Bob Barber assisting. Burial will be in Albright Cemetery with military honors by the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., and from 10 a.m. to time of services Wednesday at the church.
Neva Jane johnson
Aug. 9, 1941 – Nov. 6, 2005
Neva Jane (French) Johnson, 64, 7774 E. 200 South, Greentown, went to be with the Lord at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, from her home. She was born Aug. 9, 1941, in Kokomo, a daughter of Gerald R and Ruth J. (Maquard) French. In May of 1985 she married Duane E. Johnson, who survives.
She was a 1959 graduate of Kokomo High School. She retired from Delco Electronics in 1997 after 35 years of service. She was also the co-owner of American Crane and had previously been a lifeguard at the Seashore and a swim teacher at the YWCA.
She enjoyed water ballet, traveling, camping and canoeing. She was a Girl Scout leader, trainer, committee member and a board member for the Tribal Trails Girl Scout Council. She was a member and former president of the Delco Alumni Club, Euchre club, Earlier Birds of Hoosierland T-Bird Club, Classic Thunderbird Club International and the Mustang Club. She was also an avid supporter of We Care and We Care Park.
In addition to her husband, Duane, she is survived by two daughters, Richelle (Calloway) Kelley and husband Terry of Valparaiso, Annette (Calloway) Jarvis and husband James of Kokomo; a stepdaughter, Teri (Johnson) Hendrick and husband Dan of New Palestine; a sister, Darlene Osterholtz and husband John of Minnesota; two brothers, Gary French and wife Kay of Minnesota, David French and wife Margret of Iowa; grandchildren, RyAnne (Jarvis) Watson, Zachary Cunningham and Brittney Cunningham; stepgrandchildren, Wendy Hansen, Kira Hendrick and Darby Hendrick; one great-grandchild, Aroara Watson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Robert Jarvis.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with the Rev. Steve Pearce officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Point Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to We Care. Dana Grace Parrett
April 4, 1922 – Nov. 6, 2005
FLORA — Dana Grace Parrett, 83, Cutler, died 6:07 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, at Waterford Place Health Care in Kokomo. Born April 4, 1922, in Carroll County, she was a daughter of Robert C. and Merle M. (Everett) Scott. On Aug. 14, 1949, in Carroll County, she married Sam A. Parrett and he preceded her in death March 4, 1978.
She graduated from Flora High School in 1940. She was office manager at Mann Chevrolet-Buick Inc., Flora, from 1941 until she retired in 1992.
She was a member of Living Faith Church of the Brethren, Beta Alpha Chapter of Pxi Iota Xi, Flora, and Classie Lassie Home Demonstration Club of Burlington.
She is survived by one son, Ned Parrett, Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Robert E. Scott, Camden; one sister, Alyce and husband Willard Moore, Kokomo; two granddaughters; and nine nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Scott.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Baker Funeral Home, 204 S. Center St., Flora, with Pastor Ryan Spence officiating. Burial will be in Flora’s Maple Lawn Cemetery. Robert W. Pohlman

GALVESTON — Robert W. Pohlman, 86, Galveston, died 4:52 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 06, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital in Kokomo. Born Aug. 20, 1919, in Howard County, he was a son of William and Lena (Depka) Pohlman. On Oct. 27, 1947, in Portland, Ind., he married Janice C. Pohlman and she preceded him in death June 27, 2002.
He was a lifelong farmer.
He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kokomo and served on the board for First National Bank in Kokomo. He was also a member of Farm Bureau.
He is survived by a son, James and wife Sandra Pohlman, Galveston; a daughter, Kathie and husband Rex Courtney, Burlington, Ky.; stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Wiggington, Kokomo, and Lonnie White, Rochester; and five step great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Janice, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at the Murray-Weaver Funeral Home Galveston Chapel, 401 S. California St., with Pastor Robert Bohlmann officiating. Burial will be in North Union Cemetery of Howard County. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Vivian E. Renie
May 11, 1913 – Nov. 6, 2005
Vivian E. Renie, 92, a resident of Windsor Estates, died 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, at the facility. She was born May 11, 1913, in Sharpsville, a daughter of Clarence “Kit” and Lillie (Chamness) Hawkins. On June 23, 1932, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton, she married Robert H. Renie, who preceded her in death Feb. 2, 1999.
She graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1932 and was a homemaker who was blessed with 67 years of marriage to Robert.
Her hobbies included crocheting and knitting. She took particular pride in sharing her handiwork with friends and family. Her memberships include St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Rosary Society at the church.
Survivors include one son, Maurice Q. “Mauri” Renie and wife Judith of Speedway; one daughter, Marcia A. Sanders and husband Ronald E. of Kokomo; four grandchildren, Tony Renie of Speedway, Scott Renie, Michelle Heimbuch and husband Todd, all of Indianapolis, and Thomas E. Sanders of Kokomo; three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Alex and Colin Renie; a brother-in-law, Joseph C. and wife Dorothy Renie of Kokomo; sister-in-law Margaret Renie of Speedway; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Doniven Hawkins and Wilbur Hawkins; and one sister, Fern Roler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Fr. Theodore Dudzinski the celebrant. Jason Charles Schafer
Sept. 21, 1980 – Nov. 3, 2005
Jason Charles Schafer, 25, Lafayette, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at his residence. Born Sept. 21, 1980, in Kokomo, he was a son of Perry and Sandra K. (Willis) Schafer.
He was a 1999 graduate of Maconaquah High School and a 2004 graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in turf science. He was assistant superintendent of Ravines Golf Course in Lafayette.
Jason was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing as well. He was known for his light-hearted nature and easy-going smile. He brought laughter and joy to those around him and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his father, Perry Schafer, Greentown; his mother, Sandy Comerford and stepfather Nick Comerford, Kokomo; a half-brother, Ryan Schafer; his maternal grandmother, Lois Willis, West Palm Beach, Fla.; his paternal grandmother, Willadean Schafer, Kokomo; aunts and uncles, Susan Zimpleman, Kokomo, Bill and Mary Lou Willis, Loda, Ill., Greg and Joellyn Simpson, Maryland, Dick Willis, Lakeworth, Fla., Denny Schafer, Center, and Brenda Ward; cousins, Scott and Tawni McKay, Kevin and Kristy Stoll, Karl and Shannon Willis, Scott and Stacy Willis, Kelly and Cy Rice, Walker Willis, Walt Willis, Danielle Willis, Trista and Austin Ward.

NOBLESVILLE — Edward Arnold Scott, 70, Noblesville, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. He was born Nov. 18, 1934, in Noblesville, a son of Wilbur Sr. and Lorene (Tompkins) Scott.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and had worked for Noblesville Casting.
Survivors include a daughter, Edie Small and her companion D.C., Kokomo; a stepson, Jewel Perkins, Kokomo; two brothers, Wilbur Scott Jr., Kokomo, and Marvin Dale Scott, Indianapolis; two sisters, Shirley Ann Thomas, Columbus, Ohio, and Jo Ann Perdue, Noblesville; a grandson, Grant Small; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Scott Sr.; his mother, Lorene Scott; and a sister, Betty Scott.
