---- — On Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, as the sun rested on a new day, the gracious hand of our Lord so lovingly ushered our beloved on heaven’s peaceful journey.

John Henry “Tippy” Thompson was born Aug. 28, 1946, in St. Louis, Mo., to Roberta Armstrong and Jerry Thompson.

John completed his education in the St. Louis school system. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War. He was employed at Continental Steel, and later City Transportation of St. Louis, Mo., Public Service Metro By-State.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had a giving and loveable spirit, a loving smile, a signature swagger, he never met a stranger. He was an avid sports fan.

John leaves to cherish his memory wife Bertha Thompson; two daughters, Kavette Armour, St. Louis, Mo., Jivaughnde Forte and fiancé Joe Gaillard, Kokomo; two sons, Gideon (Leigh) Green, DeCarlos Green, both of Kokomo; three stepdaughters, Kim (James) Smoot, MaryAnn Green, Eureka Swygert, all of Kokomo; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Calvin Armstrong, Cliffon (Kalisha) Brookings, Frank Armstrong; five sisters, Bonita (Anthony) Northington, Virginia Armstrong, Deborah Jackson, Jennifer Thompson, Jerranetta Brookings; and a host of family and friends including loving companion La Vera Fowler, special son Charles James Jr., special grandson Charles James III, goddaughter Evelyn, special niece Ellen, special sisters Meri and Kat, and friends, Donald, Ray, Virgil and Reggie.

He was preceded in death by his mother, three brothers, three sisters and a son.
