---- — Arthur C. Hartman, 94, Kokomo, was called from his home on earth to be with our Lord in heaven at 7:05 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013. He was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Howard County to George D. and Anna K. (Hoffman) Hartman. Arthur was married to Opal M. Byers at Zion Lutheran Church, Kokomo, by the Rev. Omer Hartman. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

Arthur was a 1937 Ervin Township High School graduate and received an agriculture certificate from Purdue University. He was a lifelong farmer and especially enjoyed his cattle and tomato crops. He was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Kokomo, deacon for 12 years and sang in the choir for many years. He served 16 years as Ervin Township trustee, was a member of Northwestern School Board for four years, during which time the new elementary school was built. Arthur also served on the welfare board in Howard County, the Soil and Water Conservation Board, as a member of Ervin Township Farm Bureau and sang in the quartet representing the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed refereeing high school basketball games and was an avid IU basketball fan.

Survivors include his loving wife, Opal (Byers) Hartman, Kokomo; son, David L. (Janet) Hartman, Kokomo; daughters, Linda (John) Alley, Rochester, Joyce (Gene) Paschka, Fort Wayne, Marge Bunn, Kokomo, and Patti (Tom) Stout, Kokomo; brother, Ernest (Marty) Hartman, Goshen; 17 grandchildren, Jonathan (Christy) Hartman, Elizabeth (Mongi) Farhat, Rebekah Grant, Johanna (Josh) Gambrell, Joshua (Heather) Hartman, Daniel (Kristen) Hartman, Naomi (Travis) Rombold, Sarah (Wesley) Pitzer, Benjamin (Bethany) Hartman, Mary Hartman, Jennifer (Karl) Gron, Amanda( Matt) Dewig, Matthew (Lauran) Canady, Brooke Canady, Zachary Canady, Nicholas (Mandi) Stout and Christopher (Kelly) Stout; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna; brothers, George, Alfred, Omer, Carl, Paul and Bob; sisters, Pauline (Hartman) Lutz and Ruth (Hartman) Conwell/Brothers; and great-grandson, Skyler Grant.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 705 Southway Blvd. E., in Kokomo, with the Rev. William Allison and the Rev. Barry Akers officiating the service. Burial will follow in North Union Cemetery in Kokomo. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.
