Milo Estel “Shorty” Thomas, 97, West Middleton, passed away at 6:48 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Kindred Transitional & Rehab, Kokomo. He was born June 18, 1916, in Kokomo, to Milo Estel and Ona Pearl (Groves) Thomas. Shorty married Alice G. Wilson on Aug. 22, 1948, and she passed away May 17, 2000.
Shorty worked for Chrysler for 30 years and retired in 1980 and loved farming. He was a 1934 West Middleton High School graduate. He was a member of West Middleton Friends Church. Shorty enjoyed going fishing, and had a deep love for his family and grandchildren. He also never met a stranger.
Survivors include children, Patricia (Ed) Rhea, Port Charlotte, Fla., Jane (Roger) Rayl, Kokomo, Janet Baxter, West Middleton, and Richard (Lonna) Thomas, Kokomo; brother, Walter (Helen) Thomas, Russiaville; sisters, Mary Rohrer, Greenup, Ill., and Nellie Perkins, Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Corina Rhea, Traci Holland, Scott Rhea, Wendi Campbell, Julie Adams, Suzanne Leisure, Beth Robertson, Amy Grant, Ryan Thomas and Lindi McKillip; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Ona Thomas; wife, Alice Thomas; brothers, Arlie Thomas, Robert Thomas, Leo Thomas and Otis Thomas; sisters, Lona Stroup, Elsie Clark; three infant brothers; and two infant sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with the Rev. Larry Boswell and the Rev. Jason Grant officiating services. Burial will follow Saturday in New London Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:30 to 8:30 pm. Friday at the funeral home.
