Harold Russell Kiser, 79, Lafayette, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at the Clinton House Health and Rehabilitation Center in Frankfort. He was born July 15, 1934, in White County to Burley Virgil and Gleta Marie (Grafton) Kiser. He married Sheri L. Kiser, and she survives.
Harold graduated from Star City High School. He retired from Chrysler Casting Plant in 1994. He loved flying and was a private commercial instrumental flight instructor as well as a ground flight instructor and had logged over 400 flight instructor hours. He was a single-engine land and sea glider co-pilot, chief pilot for Grissom Aero Club, managed Peru Airport and was a member of the safety council for the Great Lakes Region. He had his real estate license and enjoyed traveling, reading, and woodworking. He was raised on a farm and took pride in his family and his children.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Alan Kiser, Florida, Doug (Susan) Kiser, Lafayette, Eric (Theresa) Kiser, Kokomo, and Evan (Nanette) Kiser, Milwaukee, Wis.; one daughter, Dyann (Kevin) Oswalt, Royal Center; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph (Barb) Kiser, Star City, and Rex (Bonnie) Kiser, Illinois; three sisters, Dolly Miller, Lafayette, Ruth (Dick) Wentz, Brownsburg, and Nancy (George) Bechtel, Kokomo; three sisters-in-law, Merlene Kiser, Lafayette, Judy Kiser, Munster, and Franses Kiser, Royal Center; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Lee, Dean, Bobbie, Chet, Merle, and Paul Kiser; one sister, Nellie Baker; sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Floramae, and Lois Kiser; and one brother-in-law, Truman Baker.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
