Agnes I. Ulerich

March 8, 1923 - April 23, 2013

— Agnes I. Ulerich, 90, Kokomo, went to sing in the Heavenly Choir at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Reflections Memory Care in Kokomo. She just recently had celebrated turning 90. Agnes was born March 8, 1923, to the late Estell and Martha Williams. She married Reno Ulerich. He preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1987.

They raised their family on a farm in Russiaville. They later moved to Kokomo, when Reno accepted a job as Kokomo street commissioner. Agnes was in a Home Economics Club, a Sunday school teacher, mother advisor of the Rainbow Girls and a past worthy matron and 50-year member of the Russiaville Order of the Eastern Star 130. She also wrote the Russiaville Observer. Later she worked as a receptionist for Dr. McClure and Northeast Animal Clinic.

In her lifetime, Agnes enjoyed playing the piano, wintering in Florida, trips to Hawaii and St. Thomas, a cruise to Mexico, bowling with the Kids over 55 Group, playing bingo at the Crisis Center and the Senior Citizens Center, attending church and singing in the choir at First Christian Church and working puzzles. In her later years she loved going with her daughter to hear gospel groups sing. She especially enjoyed Bill Martin’s Macedonia Call, Family Ties and Fairview Baptist’s Cowboys Church.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the wonderful, loving staff at Wellington Reflections, where she had lived after her stroke in 2011. Several on the staff called her Grandma and treated her like family. To Pastor Will Jewsbury and First Christian Church members for their cards, gifts, and prayers, also thank you to Julie Rayl and the volunteers from Guardian Angel Hospice who were there in her final days. Words can’t express what their kindness and care meant to Agnes and her family. Thank you, all.

Survivors include a daughter, Becky Green; sister-in-law, Bessie Williams, Florida; grandsons, David Oliver (June) and Andy Green (Sonya); granddaughters, Tracee Carter (Tom), Vicki Carter (Andy) and Mirra Weir (Matt); 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter, along with several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Saundra Oliver; and a brother, Noah Williams.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, also at the mortuary, with Pastor Bill Martin officiating. He will also sing one of Agnes’s favorite songs, “Prayer is the Key to Heaven.” The Russiaville OES will give Eastern Star rites at 10 a.m. Saturday at the start of the service. Entombment will follow the service in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
