John Cantu, 72, Kokomo, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born Oct. 15, 1940, in Lakeview, Mich., to Jesse Cantu Sr. and Herlinda (Sanchez) Cantu. He married Ruth (Stonebraker) Cantu, and she survives. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1959. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from General Motors in Marion, and was a member of U.A.W. Local 977.
Survivors include a son, Roger Cantu and wife Michelle, Peru; son, Jesse Cantu and wife Lisa, Converse; son, Michael Bollman and wife Erin, Tipton; daughter, Jairus Foust and husband Joe, Peru; brother, Billy Cantu and wife Julie, Fishers; brother, Jose Cantu and wife Carol, Kokomo; sister, Aurora Hayes, Kokomo; sister, Gloria Flook, New Canaan, Conn.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one son..
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with the Rev. Charles E. Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by the Camden American Legion, Delphi American Legion and the V.F.W. of Delphi. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
