Rickey 'Papaw' Dale Byous

Feb. 27, 1955 - Feb. 6, 2014

Rickey “Papaw” Dale Byous, 58, Kokomo, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, in his home. He was born Feb. 27, 1955, in Phoenix, Ariz., to the surviving Huey R. Byous Sr. and the late Diana Jean (Lowe) Byous.

Rickey attended Maconaquah High School, than began serving our country with the U.S. Marine Corps. Later he worked as the owner and operator of Noah’s Ark pet store. Rickey was associated with the pet store from 1985 till 1996. He loved spending time building model railroads, and especially enjoyed N scale. Rickey was a family man, and always available for his children and grandchildren. He could best be described as a free spirit – part hippie, part cowboy. Rickey loved being outdoors, his guns and fishing.

Rickey is survived by his wife, Mary P. Byous; his children, Rickey Adam Byous, Melissa Renae Lindsey, Michael Ryan Byous, Stacy Ann (Jeremy Foltz) Byous and John Thomas (Amanda) Byous; grandchildren, Jasmine Nicole Height, Katelyn Michelle Cauthern, Brian Paul Cauthern, Timothy Dale Cauthern, Juliet May Foltz, Jordan Liam Foltz, Kristina Marie Byous, John Thomas Byous Jr. and Samantha Kay Byous; siblings, Denise (Dick) Lamott and Huey R. (Linda) Byous Jr.; and brother-in-law, John “Bill” Stoeckinger.

Rickey was preceded in death by his mother, Diana Jean Byous; children, April Eve Byous and Debbie Jean Byous; grandchild, Joshua Wayne Height; and a sister, Deborah Jean Byous

Funeral services for Rickey will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Rev. Junior Melton officiating. Following the funeral service, Rickey will be laid to rest in Albright Cemetery, with military rites provided by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Kokomo VFW military rites teams. All of Rickey’s friends and family are welcome to join together for a time of visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Contributions in Rickey’s memory can be directed to Guardian Angel Hospice, with envelopes available at the mortuary.
