John E. Dunlap

Dec. 8, 1935 - Feb. 13, 2014

John E. Dunlap, 78, Kokomo, died at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Dec. 8, 1935, in New London, the son of S. Charles and Opal (Davenport) Dunlap. On Dec. 21, 1957, he married Eva M. (Mc Combs) Dunlap who preceded him in death April 6, 2003.

John was a 1954 graduate of Western High School and was employed as a skilled tradesman by Delco Electronics, retiring in 1991 after 35 years of service. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 292.

John is survived by children, Chris (Rita) Dunlap, Brad (Vickie) Dunlap, Tim Dunlap, Joel Dunlap, Jeff (Brenda) Dunlap, Greg Dunlap, and Kelly (Gary Bagwell) Dunlap; brother, Bob (Greta) Dunlap; sister-in-law, Jeannie Dunlap, Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Douglas (Jessica) Dunlap, Ashley, and Zachery Dunlap, Tara (Matt) Carlile, Jessica (Andy) Russell, Brooke Simpson, Angel Travis, and Christina Vincent; great-grandchildren, Kieran, Ethan, and Jaylah Dunlap, Adison Jackson, Carter Smith, Shaylan Martin, and Braylee Young; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard (Wanda) Mc Combs, Jim (Barb) Mc Combs, Herman (Debbie) Mc Combs, Earl (Kitty) Mc Combs, and Wanda J. Koegler. In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by brothers, Richard “Dick” Dunlap and Larry Dunlap.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Pastor Steve Sherwood officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
