---- — Thomas McKinley, 76, passed away at his home at 1:38 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. He was born the son of Emerson and Frances (Jones) McKinley in Logansport, on Nov. 10, 1937. On March 15, 1959, he married Patricia “Pat” McGinnis, who survives him.
Thomas was a 1956 graduate of Flora High School and had a career as a journeyman printer at the Kokomo Tribune, where he retired after 42 years of service. After retirement he worked at a the Frances Home for the chronically mentally ill. He was a volunteer at Heaven House in Destin, Fla., and Kokomo Urban Outreach in Kokomo. His was an active member of Indian Heights Grace Brethren Church, where he taught Sunday school, served as a deacon, and participated in national, district, and local men’s ministries. He served part time at the church and was on several committees. He loved spending time in his backyard taking care of his flowers and garden. His hobbies included running, riding bicycles and running in multiple mini-marathons.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pat; children, Tim (Peggy) McKinley, Teresa (Rocky) Smith, Tammy (Tim) Boal, Lynna (Brian) Walta; siblings, John (Betty) McKinley, Georgia Miller, Brenda (Tom) Guyer; grandchildren, Heather Smith, Halie Smith, Ben Boal, Daniel Boal, Andrew Boal, Corrie Price, Anna Walta, Avery Walta; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim McKinley.
Funeral services will be at noon Monday at Grace Brethren Church, 725 E. Center Road, with Pastors Larry Richeson, Tim Boal, and Dan Boal. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, as well as one hour before the service.
