---- — Fred Skomp, 70, a long-time resident of Key West, Fla, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014. Fred was born Feb. 24, 1943, in Kokomo.

Before moving to the Keys, Fred was in upper management for a new and growing shipping company, UPS in New York City. Fred and his wife, Cindy, moved to the Florida Keys and in 1976 purchased Atlantis Marina on Long Key. From there, Fred and City moved to Key West in 1986 and bought and renovated several private homes before buying and developing Conch Harbor Marina in Key West with business partner, the last Joe Roth. Afterward he developed Hurricane Hole Restaurant and Marina on Stock Island with partner Tim Root. Fred, Cindy and son Curtis also started and owned Southernmost Commercial Real Estate from 1992 to 2000. Fred and Cindy traveled the world and sailed all seven oceans and continents. He loved boating, fishing, golfing and time with his family.

Fred was preceded in death by father Roy, mother Thelma, and brother Russ.

Fred is survived by his brother, Mark (Kathy), Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister, Phyllis (Richard), Hillsboro, Ohio; life partner and wife of 42 years, Cindy; sons, Curtis (Mariana) Skomp, Key West, and Christopher (Rhonda) Skomp, Noblesville; grandchildren, whom loved him very much, Mia, Corey, Jacob and Tyler Skomp; many loved nieces and nephews around the country; extended family in Lima, Peru; and many great friends in the Keys.

A celebration of Fred’s life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA. Dean-Lopez Funeral Home, Key West, Fla., was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
