Wilma Jean Harris, 87, Vernon, formerly of Kokomo and Florida, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at her residence. Mrs. Harris was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Ollie and Mae Moore Grant. She married Robert Harris on April 10, 1976, in Kokomo, and he preceded her in death in February 2008.
Mrs. Harris worked as a restaurant manager and assistant manager and was the former owner and operator of Town and County Inn in Kokomo. She was a member of Vernon Baptist Church in Vernon. She enjoyed hummingbirds, flowers, gardening, crocheting and reading. She was an IU basketball fan.
She is survived by her children, Michael Keith (Rhonda) Jones, Vernon, and Beverly Jean Houser, Vernon; stepson, Richard (Tricia) Harris, Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Triana, Vernon; 12 grandchildren, Evan Jones, Logansport, David (Ashley) Houser, Logansport, Amy (Brad) Craven, Logansport, Shawn Houser, North Vernon, Magdalyn Houser, Tampa, Fla., Abigail Houser, Port Charlotte, Fla., David Harris, Kokomo, and Tamra (Kevin) Kirchgessner, Kokomo, Holly Valadez, Vernon, Brandon (Amber) Bett, Lafayette, Kristen (Jay) Skipper, Lakeland, Fla., and Victoria (Kyle) Miller, Lakeland, Fla.; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Keith Jones; second husband, Robert Harris; five sisters, Helen Coombs, Louise Wilkerson, Rosanna Fry, Mildred Tyler and Marcella Peacock; one brother, James Grant; and two stepsons, Steven and David Harris.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon, with the Rev. Don Morris officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
