Jack Lay Lantz

Sept. 21, 1927 - Feb. 22, 2014

Jack Lay Lantz, 86, Fishers, formerly of the Plevna and Greentown area, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Kindred Healthcare, Carmel. He was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Plevna, the son of Fred and Goldie (Kratzer) Lantz. While stationed in Germany and on medical leave in London, England, he met Eileen Patricia Preddy. They were married Feb. 27, 1953, in Chatham, N.J. They lived in Kokomo for a short time before moving to Plevna.

In Plevna, Jack owned and operated Lantz Brothers Grocery for 24 years. After selling the grocery store, he was employed by The State Bank of Greentown for 11 years before retiring. In 1976, Jack and his wife, Eileen, opened Eileen’s in Marion until the business closed in 2001. He graduated from Greentown High School in 1945 and went on to attend Indiana University in Bloomington. Jack served in the United States Army from 151 to 1952. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 317, the Greentown Lions Club, Meridian Street Christian Church, Jerome Christian Church and the Meshingomesia Country Club in Marion. He also has attended First Christian Church in Noblesville. Jack was the Liberty Township trustee for Howard County for many years.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing — Canada being his favorite place to fish — and all of his customers at the grocery store in Plevna.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen, Fishers; sons, Barry and Jon Lantz; granddaughter, Amanda, all of Indianapolis; and Jack’s nephew, Fred Lantz, Tavares, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Dr. Woodrow F. Lantz.

Services will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Meridian Street Christian Church, 205 N. Meridian St., Greentown, with Pastor John B. Davis officiating. Private burial will be in Zion Cemetery in Howard County. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, also at Meridian Street Christian Church.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hasler-Stout Funeral Home in Greentown. Condolences may be left online at www.hasler-stout.com.
