---- — Arleen Kay (Humig) Smith, 72, Kokomo, died at 6:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at her home. She was born June 9, 1941, in Connersville, the daughter of Aaron and Matilda (Schmitt) Humig. On June 2, 1962, in St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Connersville, she married Chester “Lee” Smith, who survives.
Arleen was a 1959 graduate of Connersville Senior High School and attended Nurses Training at I.U.P.U.I. She retired from St. Joseph Hospital in 2009 after 28 years of service. She had previously worked for Americana Nursing Home and Kokomo Nursing Home.
Arleen was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, where she had been past president of the Altar Rosary Society. Arleen embraced her Catholic faith and had a firm relationship with God. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Arleen was an avid reader and enjoyed an occasional trip to casino.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Chester “Lee” Smith, Kokomo; six sons, Mark Wayne (Hilary) Smith, Battle Creek, Mich., Michael Lee Smith, Ronceverte, W.Va., Matthew Raymond (Deanna) Smith, Greenfield, Martin Emerson (Kristi) Smith, Noblesville, Mitchell Anthony (August) Smith, Sharpsville and Nicholas Patrick (Kara) Smith, Kokomo; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West, Kokomo, with the Rev. Fr. Martin Sandhage the celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 to 10:50 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
